New version of bfForms released with new features

August 3rd, 2009

I have just uploaded a new verison of bfForms with a few new features, the main one being Pausable forms (or “Save and come back later” forms for registered and logged in users).  As always I have released it early with sponsorship from a customer, but I have not had time to document all the features :-) I promise I’ll commission this asap.

This release also fixes some long standing niggle bugs that were starting to annoy me, so I fixed a lot of little minute issues that you might not notice unless you found them first (Oh and a couple of biggies)

Hope you like it – another release will be made sooner with some more new feature.

UPDATE: This release also includes the SMTP fix for non standard SMTP ports and SSL

(Forgive the brief blog post – I’m battling some personal family issues and dont have a lot of time right now to expand)

  1. Thanks for the new version. Is there any special procedure for installing when the previous version (0.2.144) is already installed or do you just use the Joomla Components Install/Uninstall? For example, I presume that I do not need to uninstall first and then install this version? Thanks.

  2. So how do I upgrade? Uninstall and reinstall?

    Thanks.

  3. I found an article in the bfForms help area (I wish Blue Flame had a forum). It states the following…
    How to upgrade between versions
    * uninstall Joomla Forms
    * delete /plugins/system/blueflame/ folder
    * delete /plugins/system/xajax.php
    * Obtain latest version of extension from myJoomla.com
    * install latest version
    * Follow onscreen prompts
    * (Recreate menu links if they dont work)
    No form data is lost in this process and database tables are upgraded as needed automatically.

    I will give this a try.

  4. I uninstalled Joomla Forms by going to Extensions > Install/Uninstall and then going to each tab (Components, Modules and Plugins) and uninstalling any items tagged as Blue Flame or Phil Taylor. I then deleted the folder and file in the instructions. I uploaded/installed the new version using the Extensions > Install/Uninstall and it successfully installed. It asked to install bfFramework, I said yes and it was successful. It asked to install xAjax plugin, I said yes and it came back with a fatal error regarding a conflict with IdoBlog. The site is completely down at this point.

    Thankfully I kept my notes from the initial install of bfForms and I renamed the xajax.php file and the site is back up. However, bfForms is not installed. I will contact BF Support to make this fix again.

  5. Knowing the Phil is “battling some personal family issues”, which I respect. I decided to see what I could do myself. As I mentioned in the previous post, I thankfully had this IdoBlog/bfForms conflict happen before so I had an idea of where to start to fix it. I downloaded the newly install xajax.php file and compared it to the one I had before installing the new version (yes, I backed up the entire Joomla folder from the web server before installing). Using Bare Bones TextWrangler (awesome app and free to boot!) I opened both xajax.php and did let TextWrangler compare the files. It found just two lines that were different, both referring to skipping something if IdoBlog detected. With this info, I uploaded the previous version of xajax.php and logged back in to the admin side. I went to Extentions > install bfForms and it completed the install process, updating the forms and tables, just as the help instructions said it would do. My forms are all there. Yeah!

  7. 1) Backup your site
    2) Backup any custom layouts – these will be lost and will need reinstating
    3) uninstall
    4) delete /plugins/system/blueflame/ folder and /plugins/system/xajax.php
    5) install latest version

    No form data is lost in this process and database tables are upgraded as needed automatically.

    Kindest regards
    Phil.

  8. In this new version, is the “Backup/Export Form, Fields and Actions Configuration to XML” still an empty feature? If so, pity…
