new bfforms version available, PHP 5.3 Compatible!
Hi All.
Lets start the new year with a new site and new features eh?
I have just uploaded the latest version of bfForms which is now (fingers crossed) 100% compatible with PHP 5.3 (for all you bleeding edge people!)
The new version of bfForms for Joomla 1.5.x also now includes the great ixEdit jQuery designer and also a wonderful multipage form solution thanks to janko. This solution will not suit everyone, but it is small and simple and will work for the majority of cases to split up longer forms into more manageable sections.
I’ll be posting videos/tutorials on how to use these two new features shortly.
The new bfForms website is also live, and I’m busy populating it with yet more FAQ’s and more helpful videos…
Existing customers can get this version for FREE from their downloads page at myJoomla.com
Have fun…
PHP 5.3 Compatibility Statement

For the record: None of our applications are designed for, tested on, or validated to work with PHP 5.3.x at all.
PHP 5.3 depreciates certain functions that I know we use, as well as introducing new features which I know conflict at the moment with our code.
As soon as I get a chance I will refactor those parts of the code effected and re-release new versions.
Out products are designed for PHP 5.2.x (5.2.4 and above) which, in our experience, is the version most webhosts have installed as its the only major version of PHP that ships with the mainstream linux distributions (redhat/centos).
Update (7th Jan 2010):I have now succeeded in getting bfForms and bfFramework to function correctly on PHP 5.3.x, there were significant changes that had to be made – this was made a lot easier as the codebase is Unit tested. I’ll release a copy soon, as soon as its been to our testers and passed their approval. I’ll make a further announcement when this has been released.

How to make form fields hide and show WITH NO CODING
Alternative Titles: Introducing ixEdit ! / jQuery to the rescue / Amazing new tool brings loads of new features with no coding needed!
Tonight i finally got to record a video to explain my excitement with this new product “ixEdit”.
I’m not a good blogger, I’m especially not good at video blogs – but this has to be seen to be understood and the power to be shown.
I’m about to show you how you can achieve some amazing form effects with NO CODING knowledge at all ! I hope you catch the fire….

FAQ: Where did the required asterisks go from Forms?
We recently announced the release of bfForms v0.2.169 with a few new features, but one important change that has had quite a knock on effect, and customers have been contacting us
The Change Log in bfForms clearly states:
————— Blue Flame Forms (bfForms) v0.2.169/bfFramework 3.4.0 Released– [02-Aug-2009 22:30 UTC] ———————
+ NEW FEATURE !! – Pausable forms!
+ NEW FEATURE !! – My Forms view+ Allow JOOMLA_USERNAME, JOOMLA_NAME, JOOMLA_EMAIL placeholders
# Fixed referer bugs
# Fixed Horizontal/Vertical checkboxes/radioboxes
- Remove required stars in favour of an upcoming new feature for showing required fields
- IE8 IN-Compatibility with autogrowing text areas – so removed for now.
See, we have removed ALL asterisks from the code, so they dont show by required fields anymore. (Apart from textarea, but that is a mistake
)
The next version will introduce a brand new, more friendly, CSS approach to marking required fields.
New version of bfForms released with new features
I have just uploaded a new verison of bfForms with a few new features, the main one being Pausable forms (or “Save and come back later” forms for registered and logged in users). As always I have released it early with sponsorship from a customer, but I have not had time to document all the features
I promise I’ll commission this asap.
This release also fixes some long standing niggle bugs that were starting to annoy me, so I fixed a lot of little minute issues that you might not notice unless you found them first (Oh and a couple of biggies)
Hope you like it – another release will be made sooner with some more new feature.
UPDATE: This release also includes the SMTP fix for non standard SMTP ports and SSL
(Forgive the brief blog post – I’m battling some personal family issues and dont have a lot of time right now to expand)
New secure email sending feature in Joomla 1.5.12
A great new feature in Joomla 1.5.12 that allows you to send email over SSL SMTP breaks compatibility with our extensions (If you want to use that feature).
We are aware of the issue and will release new versions that can take advantage of this new feature as soon as we can. For the time being please use the other available mail options that have been available before (PHP Mail, SMTP, SMTP With Auth and Sendmail). The new SMTP over SSL feature will will incorporate for the next versions of our extensions.
More reading: PHPMailer version used in 1.5 does not allow secure connection to SMTP servers
UPDATE 02/Jul/09 6:47pm GMT: The additional code has now been written to support GMail/SSL/TLS connections for bfForms email sending – if you need this update before the official release please email me direct
Import ANY html form into Blue Flame Forms
Well as expected, Brian beat me to expanding on the newest exciting feature (large video)of Blue Flame Forms – the ability to take the HTML for ANY FORM and import it to Blue Flame Forms and apply our validation rules and post-submit processing actions.
(You know, there is a competing forms extension for Joomla that ONLY allows import forms – it doesnt allow you to create any of your own forms, or fields, or apply validation rules and only allows a single email to be sent! – Blue Flame Forms is MUCH better than that!)
This now means you can migrate form ANY other forms extension for Joomla direct to Blue Flame Forms, or to design your own forms using Dreamweaver or other HTML Editor and then just import the HMTL and the CSS into Joomla Forms (Thats right, the CSS can ALSO be imported – unlike our competitors extension!).
