Joomla! 1.5.8 To Be Released Today

Maybe…

I noticed today that the change log and version file have been commited to the SVN branch. This has tagged the release to be made pretty soon.

Well, I’m only guessing but I don’t see any reason to be wrong :-)

So Watch this space - and joomla.org for the official announcement. Remember you should upgrade to Joomla 1.5.8 as soon as its available to ensure your security and stability.

Joomla Forms: Introductory Videos Now Online

Well since Joomla Forms has been released a lot of people have been asking for some introductory videos to show how the basic principles of Jooml Forms work (Before downloading)

We are pleased to publish three videos, a quick “how to install”, and two 10min long videos that take you through creating a simple contact form with Joomla Forms.

mosDirectory and Joomla 1.5.x

We are getting a lot of requests for information on mosDirectory’s future, in particular compatibility with Joomla 1.5.x

At the time of writing we have no intention of ever making mosDirectory compatible with Joomla 1.5.x

Earlier last month we started a completly new component, that is a directory type of component, with a whole host of new features and new code. Nothing from mosDirectory will be used in this component.

We do not know if/when this new component (compatible with Joomla 1.5.x) will be released, and please do not email us asking - (just assume its not soon and you will not be disapoointed if you are right).  We will release it when it is ready.

Joomla 1.5 and Forms and Phil-a-Form

Wow so many people keep emailing me asking about Form Generation in Joomla 1.5!

We have already stated several times that Phil-a-form is not compatible AT ALL with Joomla 1.5, not even with the legacy plugin enabled.

This is because of the complex way that PAF is coded, and the fact that even though Joomla claims backward compatibility, there is really little - why on earth rename the mambots folder! :-) just one of many reasons why Phil-a-form will not work in Joomla 1.5.

But Good News Is Coming!

For over a year now (well ok, we started over a year ago but development has been pretty much done recently), we have been developing a new bread of form generation extension for Joomla - code named (funny) Joomla Forms.  We have built on all our experience in this area (we were the developers of the first ever Mambo Form Component - and have been copied a lot since) and using this experience, along with all the neat new features available on the web today - we have created a brand new form generation and processing extension for Joomla (Yes it will be compatible with Joomla 1.5.x and Joomla 1.0.x !! )

DO NOT KEEP ASKING us to tell you when it will be released :-) we will drop hints from time to time in this blog.

If you are using Joomla 1.0.x You can purchase Phil-a-form today - and get a free copy of “Joomla Forms” when it is released!

Security Announcement for Joomla 1.5.0

The core developers of Joomla! have just released a statement about a security exploit in Joomla 1.5.0

After releasing Joomla! 1.5 stable we have discovered a high priority security issue.

The vulnerability has been discovered in XML-RPC in combination with the blogger API.

There is a security problem in this code that makes it possible to alter the articles

on your site (including removal). This problems has been fixed currently by members

of the development team and the Joomla! bug squad, solution is now available from

Subversion. So what do you need to do until we release Joomla! 1.5.1?
All Joomla! users who have enabled the XML-RPC Blogger API plugin should disable it!

If you have never enabled this plugin you do not need to do anything.

This comes hot on the tail of an xml-rpc issue in wordpress also !

Joomla 1.5.0 and mosListMessenger

A lot of people have been asking what our plans are for mosListMessenger (mosLM) now that Joomla 1.5 has been released.

At the moment, the downloadable version of mosLM is not compatible with Joomla 1.5 - at all - not even with the so-called legacy plugin enabled.

A few months ago we ported mosLM to Joomal 1.5SVN as it was then - we had it working and even announced our progress in this blog. However late changes to the Joomla 1.5 code base rendered the component unworking before Joomla 1.5 was released.

We are planning to re-release mosLM under the name Joomla Mailing List Manager as soon as we can - however other codeing commitments (Like Joomla Tags/KB/Forms) have taken priority.

Please don’t ask us when to expect a release - we will release it when its done and tested - until then enjoy life!

Joomla Still Doesn’t Get it on Migrating

I was out on the web today when I came across an article from someone who doesn’t normally blog ablout Joomla, but about Macs.

I advise you to read the full article, but to pad out my own blog post here is a short except:

However, I continue to believe that, the largest difference will be that Joomla will fail
because of their migration, whereas Apple executed a perfect migration.

First, “for those interested in migrating”… a product management failure right off the bat.
Joomla should be thinking that every site should upgrade, and they should be evangelizing

Joomla admins to start looking to making that transaction.
Second, saying that the migration process has issues completely ignores the fact that
migration should have been a paramount priority.

An interesting opinion from a regular Joomla user!….

Edit: I note that the Joomla Dev Blog now has a post on the migration procedure as well - I really should have a coffee before blog posting :-)

Joomla Components for Joomla 1.5

Tonight we have released updates to Joomla Tags and Joomla Knowledgebase with bug fixes and tweaks to make it 100% compatible with Joomla 1.5 (with or without legacy plugin enabled!)

We had been so focused on getting everything working in Joomla 1.5 that we got it almost perfect - until you turned on the legacy plugin then cour component got confused and did not know which version of Joomla it was hosted inside :-(  So we gave it some more logic and now it doesnt make the same mistake :-)

Joomla Knowledgebase and Joomla Tags are our only Joomla 1.5 components available.More will follow… more details on those soon…

The latest versions are available for download via your account on myJoomla.com

Joomla 1.5 Official Migrator Component

I am receiving a HUGE amount of traffic to my site from people searching google for the com_migrator component that allows (kind of) the migration of content from Joomla 1.0.x sites to Joomla 1.5.0.  We feature high in google results for these queries because we blogged about “what you need to know about Joomla 1.5″ a while ago and the migrator component was mentioned there.

However, the new wiki page on docs.joomla.org has all the details, and the download links, so (after you buy some of our components :-) ) pop on over to:
